At the age of two, Stephen Watoro came face to face with one of the most heart-wrenching experiences for a child his age- the loss of his mother. He was then raised in a children’s home till a lack of funds forced him to fend for himself at the age of fourteen on the streets of Karatina, Nyeri County.
A year later, with the help of Mwangaza Trust he sat for Class 8 and scored a total of 347 marks which got him to Magumu High School. Stephen has beaten all odds, and accomplished what many in his situation could never have accomplished. As he tells his story of courage, many who hear this story are betrayed by teary eyes and a sense of wonder in the transformation demonstrated in him. Stephen is now in Form 4, and hopes to pursue a degree in Mass Media and Communication. He says he has found a family in Mwangaza Trust. Motivational stories such as this are the reason Mwangaza Trust saw it worthwhile to share their 7 years anniversary with friends and partners.
On September 1, 2018 Mwangaza Trust held a Partner’s dinner in celebration of 7 years of empowering lives and transforming communities. The anniversary celebration at Muthaiga Country Club took guests down memory lane as Mwangaza Trust Trustees shared the highlights of the 7 year journey to impact lives in Kenya. Invited guests included; Baraka foundation chair Mr. Linus Gitahi, United Nations S.D.G. platform National Coordinator Mr. Arif Neky, Parklands Baptist Church Senior Pastor Ambrose Nyangao and Safaricom Foundation Chairman Mr. Joe Ogutu among other distinguished guests.
The different speakers echoed the importance of philanthropy as an important contributor to realization of SDG’s in any given economy. Mwangaza Trust over the last 7 years has worked with communities in Muranga, Nanyuki, Loitoktok, Naivasha, and Kisumu. We are thankful to God for the impact that is evident in Stephen Watoro. Different farmer groups have also seen transformation through training and capacity building, and market linkages.
We as Mwangaza Trust would like to be able to do more, and this can happen through your support. Mwangaza Trust Chairman Arch. Lee Karuri invites different individuals and organizations to plug-in to the vision of Mwangaza Trust through partnerships in the following interventions;
- Education through: Student Sponsorship, Enhancing School Environment
- Food Security
- Mentorship and Leadership Development
