On 27th April, 2019 Mwangaza Trust held a stress management
workshop as a part of its mentorship and leadership development programs at
Kingdom Gardens, Muthaiga. Stress management has become a prevalent societal issue,
which has affected many youth in Kenya today. Some of the sources of stress for
youths today include; family issues, educational aspirations, relationships,
health, finances among others.
Charity Njuguna, a law student at Kenyatta University shared
with attendees her life testimony on her experience with stress and how she
eventually overcame. From her experience, stress affected her relationship with
family, effectiveness in service at church as well as her academic performance
and self-esteem.
Like many other issues in life, stress is an integral part
of our day-to-day lives. When managed well, stress can be a motivator and
source of self-drive to achieve better in life. However, when poorly managed, it
can lead to depression, anxiety, and suicide.
Ms. Njuguna encouraged youths to identify what they could do
differently to avoid future recurrence of stress, and have accountability
programs as well as control groups within which they can be able to manage
stress.
The aim of this workshop and many others like this is not only to bring awareness but also to create a platform for youths to be able to address issues that affect them.
